Writing "Naomi"

I know of two ways to write the Japanese name Naomi...

直美 and 尚美

One way means 'beauty above all else' and the other means 'honest fruit'.

Can anyone tell me which is which? Thank you for your help.

The first one to me looks like "direct beauty" and the second looks like "esteemed beauty."

Each quote shows the kanji, the Japanese readings, and the English meanings. All readings after "T1" are nanori readings (readings officially recognized for use in names).

nothing wrong with good old katakana as well: ナオミ

"Honest fruit" is good, it sounds like something an English member of parliament would say. "He's a jolly honest old fruit, that chap!"

"直実" means "Honest fruit"

実 and 美 are alike but different kan-ji.
