Seems like I will shortly be offered a job at Nomura Tokyo as a Developer.

I wonder if people who have worked their could comment on number of hours I am likely to work a day (its a back office function).

I previously worked for a US bank in Tokyo and worked 9 - 8 PM on average (sometimes much later), but have heard that at Nomura it would be much longer hours. Could anyone comment on that who has worked at Nomura, or experience of IT in other banks in Tokyo?

The comment about Nomura comes from a Japanese source, though I believe it isn't IT specific.

Thanks

The reputation is deserved. Most IT outfits in Japan require pretty rotten overtime. It's a cultural problem of many Japanese officeplaces, and it affects all members equally. If you leave on time, count on it negatively affecting your time at the company. Most companies don't pay the overtime, either, despite numerous laws requiring that.
