I learned that the basic sentence structure for japanese was Subject, object, verb. I understand that but where to adjectives and adverbs and thinks like that go. could someone give me a more detailed description of word order?

Word order is more free than in English. Adjectives come before the nouns they modify, same as English. Adverbs can go almost anywhere though they are usually closer to the verb.
