Current and former Kansai residents--

When does the weather turn cooler in the fall? If things work out, I'll arrive in late August to start work in September. Based on living in the central US previously, I have the unpleasant feeling that I'll need to pack a month's worth of summer clothes in addition to my fall/winter clothes. (In a lot of the central US, late August is actually the worst part of summer. I hate hot weather.)

What do you think?

I have lived in Osaka for about 10 months, August through May; it gets really hot in summer and starts to cool down around mid to late September. Recently, Japan seems to be having a warm weather even in winter, though.
I would suggest you to bring hats and drink plenty of water, so you don't get dehydrated. They usually have ACs inside the buildings, so I used to just walk into a bank when I couldn't bare the heat sometimes.

Is it true the hottest month there is july? How hot does it get at that time? ><;

I think I'll die..

Thanks. :) I spent a summer in Taipei, where it's much worse than on Honshu, so I think I'll survive. I used to pick the sidewalk with the most automated storefront doors to walk down, so I'd get the blasts of AC. I'm just worried at the thought of have having to bring both warm- and cold-weather clothes right away. (I can't possibly buy clothes in Japan...)

You can ship them by surface mail, which is the most economical but the slowest. I believe it usually takes for about a month to get your packages, you will still get them in time before the weather cools down. :-)

Yeah, I think that should be fine, especially if I pack a jacket and a couple pairs of warmer pants and socks. Thanks!

Oh, is there really a difference? Perhaps I should switch my job hunt focus to Nara. 👍
