I wonder what's the minimum age? I ask because you can do an exam at 17 so does that mean you can be a cop at that age?

The legal stipulations for becoming a police officer in Japan are as follows:
  • Age: Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Nationality: Must be a Japanese citizen.
  • Education: Must have graduated from high school or equivalent.
  • Physical Requirements: Must meet specific physical standards, including height, weight, and vision.
  • Mental Requirements: Must pass a psychological evaluation.
  • Criminal Record: Must have no criminal record.
The specific requirements may vary slightly depending on the police force, but these are the general guidelines. The PDFs above provide more details (NPA Chugoku and Kanagawa).
