Weird question

Hello! Weird question, sorry! I live with a Japanese girl, when I am out of the room and she is alone with my cat, she says this aggressively to the cat "Eso/Esso" or "Aso/Asso" (I am unsure). Can someone please help me with the meaning? I would like to understand if she is a good person. Because she acts like she doesn't like the cat and I am worried about the situation. Is this word bad? Thank you so much

Good chance, she's telepathic with cats. She could be saying A-SOU? あそう？ you could translate that to "Oh, really?" meaning she's having a conversation with your cat. Be careful they might be talking about you.

All seriousness though, if you're concerned have you considered talking to her directly about it? This seems kinda of a roundabout way of addressing the problem.

When I lived in Japan, people treated pets like pets, not their babies. Here in the USA, people are much more affectionate towards their animals and often seemingly treat them better than their actual human relations.

Perhaps some of that is going on?

Does she say it as a question or as a command or exclamation? The only interpretation I can think of is the same as @Dentanmono 's. Ah So? Can mean "Oh really?" or Ah So! can mean "I see." Nothing particularly aggressive about it in general. Now if she says this and then kicks the cat, then we can come to the conclusion she's using it in an aggressive fashion.

OR if she is saying Uso! then that means "no way!" or "I don't believe it!" Like if the cat just puked a hairball in her shoe she might say "uso!" to mean "w t f not again!"

Maybe. But I don't think it's a good reason to be unkind to a pet, because they think that the pet is being treated too well.

A few things have happened but not as bad a kicking. So I thought maybe the words might reveal something more about the situation. I wanted to talk with them about it, but I feel like when someone doesn't like an animal, highlighting the situation and asking them to be more kind... can make them not like the animal more and be more secretive about it. So I might just let it go and hope it's ok
