wearing white?

how is wearing white generally considered in japan?
i've heard that it's what you wear at funerals, and so inappropriate otherwise, and i've also heard that that's not the case in japan, that it's a chinese custom.
in sweden and the states white's commonplace during the summer, and wearing white linen pants to work is a way to look formal-ish while not dying of heat.
would this be alright in japan?

They wear black clothes at funerals in Japan, so white linen pants to work should be just fine.

Isn't the Japanese wedding kimono for women white? I don't know why it's white but I'd imagine that a wedding is a happy seremony, so if they wear white it might not necessarily be a bad thing..

You're worrying over nothing. Traditions about what color to wear at funerals, weddings, and other such sad events have no relation to what colors one may wear as a part of their day-to-day attire.
