I'm sure this probably no big deal, but I still want some info just in case. I'm doing a month homestay with host family in Japan. My father died four years ago. Is there anything I should be aware of when I explain this to them?
You are under no obligation to bring it up, but if the subject does come up, there is nothing you need to watch out for. Buddha Smoker is correct - they will probably say "I'm sorry to hear that" or the like, and leave it at that.
