Use of browser "back" button on forums

Hi, a minor annoyance....

When navigating the forums, I find that I need to click the browser "back" button several times (maybe three or four times) in order to get back to the previous page. I believe that this is something that the site itself is doing (or not doing), and not a local browser problem. It would be nice if "back" always took you back with one click.
 
Thanks for your feedback. However, I cannot reproduce this behaviour in Firefox, Opera, Chrome, or even Internet Explorer. We certainly do not use any JS tricks to keep you on a page.
 
Do you only have that with this website, or others as well?

Are you navigating back from threads itself? And have you tried other browsers?
 
Strange that you can't reproduce it. For instance, go to:

Learning Japanese

then click on a thread, then click on the back button to go back. Often this takes several clicks for me before it works. I have just tried it again, and the behaviour seems variable, perhaps thread-dependent (perhaps even dependent on whether I started the thread??)

I am using IE 10 with WIn 7. The "back" button works as expected on other websites.
 
If a link opens in a new tab, there would be no original page to "go back" to, but I guess that's not what you are referring to.

When navigating to the page you've linked I can "go back" with one click. I am using Firefox and Win7. I have just tested this in IE10 (build 10.0.9200.16635) and encountered no problems.
 
Strange.

(When I click on the link I posted, it opens in a new tab. Obviously I am not talking about clicking "back" at that point because there is nothing to go back to, as you say. I mean go to the page I linked to, then click on a thread, then click "back". For instance, when I click the thread titled しないか / 水をバケツに一ぱい / とする / で（は）なければ, it seems to then take three clicks to go back.)
 
You haven't accidentally clicked on a specific post(s)? (by clicking the number on the right hand side). If this is the case then you'll see something like #post10101 at the end of the url and while clicking back your position on the page might jump around although the page won't reload.

Off topic, but why don't you try another browser? Firefox, Safari and Chrome have long overtaken IE on JREF, actually it's down to just 10 percent (interestingly, Chrome's in the lead with 40 percent), followed by Safari (mostly mobile users) and Firefox, both at 18 percent.

I have no need to. (I wouldn't bother for this tiny issue even if it is IE-related, which seems doubtful if you say you can't replicate it in IE.) I also trust other browsers less as far as privacy is concerned.
