this is the first loss of US men's basketball team at the Olympic Games since NBA players were allowed to play in 1992

looks like it is very possible that USA will not win the Gold medal this year.

Yeah, I think that it looks very possible that they won't medal at all. :? Oh well, I guess they'll do better with the selection process next year.

i cant believe the us didnt win either i mean they had some good players like allen iverson and duncan in the game now these two are famous and really good and theres lots more good players in there cant believe they didnt win

The US team is a joke. There are too many superstars on the team so they don't play well together. The whole team is offensive minded and no one is really that good on defense except Duncan.

It isn't anything new for US basketball to be losing either. They came in 6th in the world championships in 2002 with a better team than this year's. Their problems include: no real point guard, selfish players, no perimeter shooting, unwillingness to play toughnosed team D. Absolutely disgusting.

Arroyo was awesome! And Iverson pulling some pretty nasty fouls! That whole team was upsetting to watch. Everyone wanting to make a shot, not passing, no defense, just bleh.....

no offense to the Americans, it is just that I am really disgusted about this team

first you have a bunch of players not joining the national team, they'd rather stay home during the summer than to respresent their country,
then you have a bunch of players that are so arrogant, no effort, big ego, no teamwork, underestimates and disrespects their opponents

I feel very sorry for the American basketball fans.

Well, the point could be made that NBA players would rather have that championship ring than an Olympic gold medal, so they stay home to train in the offseason and get ready for the NBA season. It's a bit understandable that they wouldn't want to go, and no one can tell them that they have to go, but I agree with you, Dream Time.

While I agree with you about many of the problems facing NBA players (arrogance, egos, selfishness), I also agree with Glenn that NBAers have other priorities. Many are hoping to heal from injuries suffered during the season (Shaq, Kidd), have legal battles (Kobe), or are scared of terrorists (Jermaine O Neal). Some of the reasons, like Ray Allen's marriage, are a little less acceptable, but it's up to him. I'd rather have people on the team that WANT to be there than players who begrudgingly take the court. Owners around the league don't want their players playing int'l ball in the offseason because it usually leads to an injury during the season. Add to that the fact that many of the best players already have a medal of some sort, and it's not hard to see why they wouldn't want to travel around the world and train during their down time.

That being said, I'm still disgusted with the team's play.
