University Nomination - MEXT Scholarship

Hello everyone
I have applied to KEIO university and MEXT scholarship through university recommendation. Can anyone tell me what is the average GRE score and GPA required for getting the MEXT scholarship?

I wanna know that too. My GRE score (old pattern) is 1440. The scaled score in the new pattern is 328. My current institution doesn't have a GPA system, and my Bachelor's % is pretty average. I'm not sure about my chances becuase of my B.Tech. %.
 
Every University has its own requirements so there is no answer to that question, ask your Graduate School...ask your advisor about those scores...
 
I got a word from my professor yesterday. He said the scholarship committee are at the final stages of the selection. He hasn't said anything if I have passed or not, but I guess it would be over by this week. Any news from you guys?
 
Nope. Nothing as yet. Is everyone in regular contact with the professor coz I havent contacted the professor ever since he agreed on the research plan I proposed.
 
Actually, I sent the final draft of my essay (Field of Study and Study Program) to my professor that's why he contacted me. In my case, they asked me to send 2 sets of application, one for my university and the other is for MEXT. The have different requirements.
I've sent the first set and I'm already working on the second.

By the way, the student support office also informed me that they received my toefl official score certificate last Jan. 30. It was sent last Jan.8 from the toefl office. So I guess it takes 3weeks to get to the university. Funny thing is, I haven't received my own copy yet.
 
The Professor aksed me to send the Research plan and he agreed to guide on it but he never mentioned on any additional copy for MEXT. I had contacted him in Sep and since then there has been no contact. Also, I was given an understanding that TOEFL score is not required if u have passed from from a university where English is the primary language of teaching. How abt u? Also, Wats the kinda scores required in acads as well GRE/TOEFL to get into KEIO with MEXT scholarship?
 
hey koustubh, I think mozda has answered your question already.
In my case, they really need the TOEFL score. I was told that I should get 100 if I take the toefl ibt.

Anyone else been nominated for Hokkaido University yet? I received my nomination towards the end of last year.
 
koustubh...you haven't heard from your professor since September? Don't take me for sure but I think application procedures at all universities are ended by the February, you should definitely contact him soon as possible...
 
Hey guys. I received a mail from Keio University yesterday. They said that I had been accepted for the IGP, and that they wanted to recommend me for the MEXT scholarship. They have asked for a final confirmation by Feb 13th on whether I definitely plan to attend Keio University. I will be replying in the positive in a day or two, coz I want to wait a little longer to see if I hear from any of the other Universities. Hope you guys get in too. Best of luck.

As suggested by mozda, I have contacted my professor. However, I haven't received any mail regarding the announcement of my admission result (neither acceptance nor rejection) as yet. Has everyone received the admission result?

The Admissions Office sent me the mail. But my professor was positive when I spoke to him a few weeks ago, so I thought that I had a very good chance of making it in.
 
The Professor says he doesn't know the final result, but I will receive the result soon.
 
FullM3taL congratulations! I'm still waiting for the news. My professor and I emailed a lot this week but he hasn't said anything yet about the results. this waiting is killing me.
 
The office in my uni will tell me the university result around the middle of this month. hope everybody have a goods news

Also, your name has been listed as one of candidates for the Monbukagakusho (Japanese Government) Scholarship nominated by our university.

Monbukagakusho will make the final selection based upon the qualifications among the candidates. We will notify you the final result in June 2012.
I am waiting time now. According to many ppl in this forum,i will have high chance to be accepted by MEEXT,but still worried
 
Has any1 else got into Keio University with MEXT scholarship? I havent receieved any reply as yet from the university and since some people have already received replies, does it mean that the chances for me are faint now?
 
ask your professor, how many students are recommended by Keio and how many of them get final approval by MEXT...
i wouldn't say it's over yet until your professor tells you so...

You have got to be a little patient. From what I could gather, the University has a main list of candidates that it wants to recommend for the MEXT scholarship, and then a reserve list. First they contact the candidates on the main list to ask them whether they definitely plan to attend Keio University or not. Those who reply yes are recommended, and those who reply no are not. However, they would still be accepted into the course if they choose to attend Keio. For all the candidates in the main list who say no, a candidate from the reserve list is picked to be recommended for the scholarship. Those candidates will also have to confirm that they will attend Keio this fall. I'm guessing that the reserve list is sorted on priority. So I would tell you to wait a bit more. The last date for me to reply was 13th Feb (today).

I have confirmed my plans to go to Keio this fall with the AO. The Admissions Office has now mailed me a link to download the MEXT scholarship form, fill it up and send it to Keio University. Will keep you guys posted on the procedure.

guyz..........No MEXT scholarship for me. What other options do I have for scholarships? Also, what are the living expenses per month in Tokyo (Keio University)
 
hey koustubh, sorry to hear that. I think you better check out the other forums for scholarships. I believe there's also a scholarship offered by Panasonic?

When my professor and I discussed my other options if ever I didn't get MEXT, he said I could apply as a private-funded student in Japan then just apply for other scholarships when you're already studying there. I wish you the best of luck. Gambatte ne!
