Traveling to Tokyo for a few hours

I ll be traveling to tokyo on 14th Nov for a few 5 hours

can anyone recommend where should i go? akihabara? shinjuku? or tokyo downtown?

Depends on what you like; Akihabara if you're into anime and maids cosplay, Ueno and the National Museum if history's your thing, Aoyama or Harujuku if you want to go top-end shopping.

Are u saying that u will have a transit in Japan for 5 hours ? In other words, when your flight arrives your next flight will leave 5 hours later ?

If that is the case, u should stick with some sightseeing in Narita only..

i ll arrive at 7am in the morning...and depart at 5pm...i suppose i hv some time to spend in tokyo?....unless i miscalculate the travelling time from narita to tokyo...

Just be careful. When I go from Narita to Koto-ku (slightly closer than central Tokyo) it usually takes 80-90 minutes but that's by JR. You can get express trains to such major stations as Ueno which are quicker of course.

I dont intend to bring along my backpack. Can I deposit my backpack in Narita?

If you're effectively on a long transit, can't the bags be passed over to the next flight without you having to collect them?
If not, there are left luggage facilities at Narita.

For the limited time you will be there I would suggest taking the Narita express direct to Shinjuku. The traveling time is about 1 hr 20 min. That would mean having to go through immigration and customs if they even allow that. I don't know what the rule is for transients. The Narita website says this:

Passengers connecting between international flights should make their way directly to their departure area (airside) after completing transit security screening and transit counter procedures.

You will be required to undergo immigration procedures if you leave this area to meet a friend or to go outside the airport. For further information, please contact your airline.

If you can, Shinjuku would be your safest bet. Many people, shopping, and an overall good, quick experience. Just be sure to purchase your return ticket to the airport before you leave as sometimes the trains are sold out depending on the time of day. Have a great time!
