Translation help ”tteru iu”

I need help with this sentence:

こんな汚い所を洗ってるっていうのに。。。

Why does there need to be a "tte iu" at the end of the verb? What purpose does it serve?

Why not leave it as こんな汚い所をあらってるのに。。。？

''tte'' is a quotation marker, and in colloquial language it is likely go with ''iu'', which is the dictionary form of ''say''.

If it is like you think the nuance of the sentence will change. The subject will change to the speaker instead of another person.

(hoka no hito ha) konna kitanai tokoro wo aratterutte iu noni...

っていう/という is a compound word, and いう doesn't mean "to say" in this case. っていうのに has a nuance of "despite a fact that..." here, the meaning is the same without っていう, though.


I think it's more appropriate to post these kind of questions in the Learning Japanese section. ;-)
