Tech Toto introduces smartphone service to locate available public toilets

Japanese toilet maker Toto Ltd. has launched a new service that allows users to check crowd levels in public restrooms at shopping centres and train stations via smartphones, responding to growing demand from facility managers for ways to reduce long queues, particularly outside women's restrooms. Since installing additional toilets is often impractical due to plumbing and drainage constraints, the service aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of existing facilities.

The system also enables users to notify staff if a toilet is out of order or requires cleaning. Introduced this month, the service is offered as an optional feature of Toto's internet-connected toilet system, which already enables central management of functions such as seat temperature.

To find an available toilet, users scan a QR code at the entrance to the facility and other designated locations to access a website displaying restroom locations and their congestion levels — "crowded," "slightly crowded," or "vacant." The service features floor maps and information on whether a restroom has high chairs or is wheelchair accessible. If a user discovers an issue with a particular toilet, they can scan a QR code inside the stall to send a request for immediate cleaning or repair. Requests can also be made for toilet paper refills or garbage collection.

I don't think it's an app for the phone. It's a service that allows customers to scan a QR code that directs them to a custom website with the pertinent information. At least that's how I read it...after looking the instructions and wondering where this feature was explained. lol

I was curious what the icon meant where the guy is standing next to the line that hinges down to the earth.
