Too old to study in Japan?

So I'm 19, soon to be 20. I've been doing classes necessary to get into sciences here in Canada, so my marks are good. However, lately I've been very interested in studying abroad, and Japan would be on the top of my list. Given that my knowledge of Japanese is puny, I would need to study the language at a school for a while. If I started university at 22 or so, would that be a bad idea regarding my future?

Also, if anyone is from Canada would you know how I would go about funding my stay?

You need to be younger than 35 to be eligible for the MEXT scholarship. Thats also your answer to how to fund it.

As for if you're too "old"... I'm 25 and I just finished my undergrad and I'm starting in Japan in October, so no... I don't think you're too old. I guess it depends on your life goals and all that.
