I can't say that I've seen anyone reading any hentai manga, but I've seen more than a few people reading manga just about everywhere...Thats one thing that made me angry about the movie "Lost in Translation", It showed a scene on the subway where a kid is reading a pornographic manga. So that one scene prompted some of my friends to start thinking, every manga and everyone who reads them is a pervert.
I went to a fairly nice coffee shop, more like a cafe, granted we were in Akihabara, but even when you try to escape the streets filled with otaku walking at you sort of mindlessly looking at whatever, you get a guy across the table from you reading a phone-book sized manga... At a point you think, just put it down for a second!
Quite a lot of what might be considered "perverted" manga, such as yaoi & the more explicit, shotacon, (though you'll get different answers from diffrent people), are in fact read primarily by females.
Well, that's a red-light district, this isn't exclusive to say Amsterdam, and keep in mind all of Nevada has legalized prostitution... Sex isn't something that is unique to Japan, everyone wants it, and if selling it is legal or not, there will be places that offer it to those who will pay.I use craze michael because you can go down streets in japan (cities at least) that are dedicated to the sex industry while its not as bad as Amsterdam lol
I had to google that to figure out what that is... People in Japan don't just casually walk into sex-shops either, pornography (as a social more), is sort of seen as an otaku persuit... I mean, comparatively to the United States I'd say that Japan is the exact opposite. In the United States pornography has become something that's seen as sort of edgy and 'cool'... Instead of it being taboo, its considered natural for adults in certain demographics to buy it together, etcetera... I know a lot of women who like pornography... so I'd say that this is a stark difference from Japan.[...]compared to Manchester its unheard of. Hear people are ashamed to walk into an Ann Summers
And, if you're saying Manchester is chaste, (I've never been that far up, only to Birmingham, and frankly I didn't want to go any further north than that)... I saw a documentary on the beeb not but a few years ago that reported that Manchester did in fact have a huge prostitution problem.
I don't know if they are more or less open, but they definitely have different social mores concerning sex--- But it's a lot like religion... People often think that the Japanese are very religious, or Buddhist or what-have-you, even though throughout a great deal of Japan's history the Daimyo tried to suppress Buddhism... There is a religious aspect to Japan, to be sure, but it's not as talked about out loud as much as it is say, in the United States... You do see some fliers here and there for "cult" like organizations though--- But this is much like you find Jack Chick Tracts lying places in the United States.[...]maybe Japan are just more open to sex. Compared to the UK the sex industry is big but here there is alot of money to be made selling drugs, illegal as they are but in Japan ive neevr even heard of drugs.
If you want to know what Japan's vices are, I can tell you, at least three things: manga, food & green tea.If sex isnt Japan's vice then im not sure what could be.
