The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival, a popular summer event last held in 2015, will make its return next year as part of a special celebration, the organiser announced. The festival had been suspended due to preparations for the 2020 Summer Olympics, during which a prime viewing location was repurposed for the construction of the Olympic Village. Its revival is set to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Tokyo's Chūō Ward administration, which is responsible for hosting the event.

The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival had been held each August since 1988 and become a hugely popular summer event. However, it was suspended in 2016 due to the start of work to construct the Tokyo Olympic Village in the Harumi district. The fireworks over Tokyo Bay will be held against the backdrop of Tokyo's glittering night skyline.
