I still dont really understand to have...

ok... this is what I want ot know:

Have (to); (got) to; must

how do you say that "Have (to)?

for example, how do you say "I have to go home." From this book I saw, this kind of have is:

watashi ni uchi ii desu. the bold is "have to".

(to) have; (to) own; (to) posess

How do you say that "(to) have"?

for example, how do you say "I have a pen."

watashi wa pen motte iru. the bold is the "(to) have"

As far as I know...to express "have to" as in I have to do something...is blah blah blah nakerebanarimasen...for eg, have to hand in homework tomorrow...ashita shukudai wo dasanakerebanarimasen...dasa is the verb stem of the "nai" form of dashimasu (hand in). It is converted into the nai form dasa so that it can be used in the pattern nakerebanarimasen...cuz the beginning "na" in nakerebanarimasen indicates requirement to modify a verb into its "nai" form.

If u want to express "have to do something before a stipulated time, or for a future purpose", use te okimasu...for eg, I have to buy air tickets before I leave for Japan...nihon he iku mae ni chiketto wo kaite okimasu

As for to have, i think ur on the right track with motte iru, which is the plain style of motte imasu...meaning u are currently in possession of a particular article
