The daily grammar thread

Hi there,
This is my first post, but I've been studying Japanese on my own for about 1 solid year now (maybe 2 years on and off). I'm doing grammar and vocabulary excercises every morning and night, aiming to memorize 5 new words a day, if I can, as well as 3-5 new grammar points a week. I have chances to utilize them, living in Japan, but I'd also like to run my practice sentences by someone, as an extra practice. I hope everyone will be open to this, and that we can all learn something or two from our conversations!

So without further ado, here goes my first batch:

１．知識 （ちしき）－
A:この人の日本歴史の知識が多いんですね。
B:そうですね。つまり大学生か高校生のときに日本歴史勉強しました？

２．休暇 （きゅうか）－
A:ゴルデンウェク休暇を取りますか？
B：そうですか。実はゴルデンウェクに働かなければならないので、休みませんよ。

３．年上 （としうえ）－
A:子供の時にいつも強くて年上の人は僕にいじめられたよ。
B:それは大変ですね。

４．じきボケ －
今ちょう疲れてじきボケがあるから、まだ遊びましょうか？

５．どうも －
A: どうも彼女は私があまり好きじゃないらしい。
B: そんあことないよ。彼女は日によって、たいどが違うよ。

I'm specifically wondering how to use doumo "somehow; for some reason; no matter how hard you try." Is it common in colloquial or even standard Japanese? Are any of these words uncommon or outdated?

A:この人は歴史の知識が多いんですね。
B:そうですね。つまり大学生か高校生のときに歴史を勉強したのでしょうか？


「２．休暇 （きゅうか）－
A:ゴールデンウイーク休暇を取りますか？
B：そうですか。実はゴルデンウェクに働かなければな・ 轤ﾈいので、休みませんよ。」

kyuuka is actually a rather uncommon word, as it is quite formal. Yasumu is better for the same purposes.


[３．年上 （としうえ）－
A:子供の時にいつも強くて年上の人は僕にいじめられた よ。
B:それは大変ですね。]

A:子供の時に僕は強い年上の人にいじめられたよ。
B:それは大変ですね。

「４．じさボケ －
今ちょう疲れてじきボケがあるから、まだ遊びましょう か？」

今ちょう疲れてじさボケがあるから、また今度遊びましょうか？

５．どうも －
A: どうも彼女は私があまり好きじゃないらしい。
B: そんなことないよ。彼女は日によって、たいどが違うよ 。
