I tend to find that the ones with the higher rep points are the one that move from sub-forums rather than stay on the one forum. If you look on the j-pop there are a few who have been here for a while, but with the low rep because they will only really post and read j-pop rather than anywhere else. The names you recognise the most are those that move about and will post on most of the forums.

That's true. I was thinking that myself too. But I think another facet is also the general nature of the posts; someone pointed out to me that the section tends to be on the more chatty side, so that makes a huuuuge post count:rep point ratio disparity. It's hard to give reps to posts that consist of exclamations and smilies. Also, it's hard to give reps to people's opinions on music, because, well, it's their opinions. So I encourage exploring other sections, because that opens people up to different aspects of Japanese culture, but I also encourage thoughtful participation in topics.

Funny you say that, Mike. I was about to commend Kinsao on her fearless manner she shared her reasons, whereas I might not have been so easy about it. Hehe

My thought process generally go something like: *mishmash of random thoughts*....... blehh, I know nothing about this........ oh, what the hell, I'll post anyway........

Another factor is the frequency with which threads in certain sub-forums crop up (or not). I mean, sometimes I'll post in a more "intellectual" thread than usual, sit back and feel rather smug, and it'll be a couple of days before the next person posts. Whereas in some threads, I can post total nonsense and it'll get a reply within seconds.

i dont think its requirement to be atheist to be level headed but being atheist allows one to be level headed about things.

Then you obviously haven't been around a group of atheists who spout off that if you don't believe in their ways you're an ignorant, stupid person who deserves to have their existance wiped from the face of the Earth, and that all religious text should be burned for science has all the answers. Don't you see the ironry in it all? This guys spring up like weeds all over the region where I live just like the fundamentalist Christians do. Trust me being an atheist doesn't make you a level headed person, nor does being a theist in that regard either. Face it there are too many ignorant people in this world who have to be on one end of the extreme or the other, and literally drag down the mentality and well being for those who are well balanced (meaning the moral majority of humanity). So let's just put it this way whether you're an atheist or a theist it's your attitude, personality, and the ability to be open minded that makes you a fair and balanced person not whether you believe in intelligent design or not.

We learn fairness, good and evil, and various other concepts from our parents and peers from an early age. It's all ethics that dictate our ability to be fair and balanced, not a religious or non-religious influence as people like to think. For example let's say there is a Christian who is a pretty fair and balance person who puts reason and logic before religious belief on their decisions. Now let's say that person wakes up one morning and decides that there is no form of a higher being what-so-ever, and becomes an atheist. Does that person's ethics change? No they don't because what we believe is moral or not, and our fairness and balance are dictated by the conditions set up for us since we were children. It has become so ingrained into our decisions that it becomes a part of our identity. So being an atheist has nothing to do with being a fair and balanced person no matter how you want to argue it because frankly it's all ethics, and a not a basis on religious or non-religious belief. I love ethics and philosophy!

As someone said, its a case of getting about and getting yourself seen and involving yourself in the discussions all over, rather then camping a single sub-forum.

That and share the rep, if you give good rep to those that deserve it, then what goes aronud coems around and you will find you get some nice comments, and rep to.

I never give bad rep though, ide rather just not give anything then have to give bad rep. ☝

But i guess it serves a purpouse for those troublesome lot, but if your rep is gonig negetive, chances are your probably already annoying the Jref overlords rules and on the way to being removed.



So anyway, the lesson is, give rep, receive rep.

Im agreeing on the fact that theres been many threads question the new folk and why they dont stay for longer and for more.

Theres a instance from when they join and then search for their first thread to reply that they're making they're mind up about the forum, undoubtedly the decisive moment to whether someone stays is there first reply from another member.

But are we to be nice to the new so they stick around, but then again when is someone bad to a new member.
If we became more welcoming we would be handing out money.
A major factor of a new member staying online is the threads they first see, maybe us the old faces, its up to us to make an effort to the new?

I agree completely. Up until about a year ago there was a much wider range of irregular, semi-regular, active and very active posters -- which is getting more and more winnowed down every day (even in the last 3-4 mos) to the active and very active clique and it's to the sad state where the small percentage of new voices that do participate camp out over a weekend or maybe a month....

If anyone has some idea about what may have changed in that time to make these people leave so drastically....besides that they are following a trend...
come to think of it, maybe that should be a thread in the site feedback section if there was a way to do in anonymously. Please everyone sign out before going !

I found out that the ones with the highest rep are the ones that are commonly on the forum, is there a divide with the popular folk with high rep and are online a lot, and then the small group of members that are the few that join and post small and leave.

Is this forum divide between 2 groups, really popular and the newbies?
