I lived in Victoria Texas for my fifth grade year. I remember the fire ants and getting kicked in the stomach for falling for a Mexican girl. I also got shot with BBs right in the stomach just because a bunch of punks decided to as I was walking through a field. I had big welts and some lost skin. If I remembered who they were I would track them down and give them a bit of violent revenge. They got off with nothing, despite going to their houses to complain.
But I also had a blast at a housing complex that was under construction. The workers packed up and left right on time every day. I would sneak in with friends and grab circular saw blades to hurl at trees like throwing stars! Then we would sword fight with some of the wood laying around. Once there was a huge sawdust pile by a two story house under construction. We climbed up on the roof and jumped down in!
It was also my first time to have a bike stolen. The first time to learn what a period was as one poor girl bled all over her pants at school. It was the first time to have my own room and man did I love it. And my first orgasm...it was so weird but compelling.
Best memory of all was one of the floods we had. I made a bridge into a flooded field using 2x4s from the construction site. Then I build a platform in the middle of the water. Started building walls but had to go home. I still wonder what the workers thought the next day, if they were angry or laughing?
They do things big in Texas, and man do I have some BIG memories! I can't remember jack from the next year when I was back in West Virginia, just a few blurs.
