A few years back, I used to be a regular member of the J-REF forums. I wish I could remember what name I used, though I have a suspicion I posted under the pseudonym "kokusu".
---
At the time, there were those who agreed with my posts, and those who disagreed with them vehemently. In most cases, I always seemed to find myself frustrated, in the middle of ideological firestorms, and engaged in arguments at every turn. In the end, I did not have the patience or energy to maintain participation in what was for me a confrontational environment.
---
Well, let's fast forward . . .
---
With the woes besetting the Japanese and U.S. economies (both places I have lived, and one nation of which I am a citizen), with the ascendancy of China in the Asian Pacific theater (not an anti, and the instability of the short-lived American hegemony since the fall of the former Soviet Union, I have a concern that the public perception and value of Japan's socio-cultural importance and the importance of bilateral relations between Japan and the U.S may be waning.
---
And so I am reaching out again, attempting to connect with others who share an interest in and value the country, people, and culture that is Japan. I want to be involved in learning about, internalizing, living, and sharing information and aspects of this culture I have come to hold a deep regard and fascination for.
---
So, if you remember me and I angered you before, please, let us forgive and forget. And, if you are one of the few who may remember me and be happy with my return, feel free to say hi and catch me up to date. I have been gone far too long.
---
To everyone, it IS great to be here. I look forward to reading with interest your thoughts, ideas, and observations about Japan!
