Sushi

Ahhh Sushi!

Depnds on your preference for flavor, more on the mild side you have Tuna and Salmon.
The heavier / fishier taste of mackrel and eel is also prefered by some.
I personally like squid (a sweet flavor) and octopus due to it's texture.

Alas I can not eat the eggs though, I have allergies to fish eggs.

Bon Appetite:62:

Living in London I can't say if the sushi I've had so far is "authentic" or whatever, but by far my favourite is sabazushi, that fish (mackerel) is just sooo tasty!

My kids love it too.. they call it stinky fish. Of course they also like anything their mother gives them that is Japanese.

Actually isn't is sashimi? Isn't sushi the rice that goes under it?
Could be wrong though.
You're right. Sushi is a combination of sashimi slice and rice.

This is a typical sushi plate:

The red is tuna. The bottom row from left is egg (dashimaki-tamago prepared with dashi stock, sugar, etc.), prawn, squid, clam (I can't identify the type) and scallop.

Saba-zushi:

There are variations, and the image shows Bo-sabazushii and Matsumae-sabazushi. Saba-zushi is commonly a "preserve" type of sushi and is vinegary, while popular sushi dishes are served with "raw" slices.

A sashimi plate:

Three types of tuna (based on part of body), octopus, two types of shiromi (white-fleshed fish) one being bonito and the other maybe sea bream, and salmon (orange-colored), garnished with finely shredded radish and grated wasabi (Japanese horseradish).

Bon apetit! 🙂

Note: Moved thread to Japanese Food & Recipes and corrected the title.

I love chirashi-zushi (which we prepare almost every Saturday night at home) and saba-zushi. Mouth-watering pics indeed. Thanks for sabotaging my efforts to shed some weight, Epigene-san!
:p

My favorites are all kinds of salmon and tuna.. .but I do enjoy my mackerel too. Ironically, I love salmon but I cannot stand ikura (salmon roe).
