Hello. I am currently a 4th year student of Japanese and I would like to request some help from kind Japanese people with a research project I am working on this semester. All you have to do is answer a few survey questions. Thank you for looking and a thousand thanks in advance for answering and helping me out.

Reverse culture shock = Culture shock experienced upon returning to one's home country

(Survey)

1. Have you lived abroad (as in, outside of Japan) before?
Yes / No

2. For how long?
1 year or less / 2 - 5 years / 6 - 10 years / 10+ years

3. Have you experienced reverse culture shock after returning to Japan?
Yes / No

4. If so, in which of the following categories did the strongest culture shock (if more than one) fall?
General culture / Politics / Customs / Manners and attitudes / Way of Thinking / Other (please specify)

5. How were your expectations prior to coming back different from your impressions after?
Expectations were better than impressions / Impressions were better than expectations / Too different to compare / No significant difference

6. Did you find it more difficult to deal with reverse culture shock than with culture shock experienced abroad?
Yes / No

7. What do you think is the reason for your answer to question 6?

Thank you again!

Well, jokes aside...while there are some Japanese nationals on the forum, and of course kindness is a part of their make-up...even if in some situations it may not be visible...most of us are from so many other parts of the world.

Please wait a while, and some may answer your survey. Also, I moved this here since it wasn't really a discussion on these cultural differences. Good luck on your research !! MM
