The 'k' in knife etc was once pronounced and I believe the 'p' in pneumonia etc is sounded in the original Greek. I think I'm going to start pronouncing them again just to see how people react
News reporters are responsible for spreading these malapropisms in the attempt to dramatise otherwise unremarkable news. Other atrocities include "multiple" for "many", "at this point in time" for "now" and "not immediately available" for "not available".
I really dislike 'Going forward' instead of 'in the future'. It incorrectly substitutes a spatial concept for what is a temporal one! It's like measuring liquid volumes in mass units; 14 ounces of coffee! Who'd think of doing that? Next they'll be measuring heat in 'sweaties' and weights in 'bicep curls'
'Myself/yourself' instead of 'me/you' is another trend. It's not wrong but why?
'Shooter' instead of 'gunman' (it's always a 'man') is another trend that sadly, we're hearing more often.
