Studying in Japan? (University)

I've been considering studying in Japan for while as my 'high schooling' comes towards an end. My marks are actually pretty decent, enough for me to apply as a doctor/dentist/veterinarian/engineer etc (pretty much all the high level jobs and such, of course getting into the course would be a different story because I would have to be first interviewed).

My ability to speak Japanese is OK, I'm sure with the time I've got left I can brush it up and become fluent if I put my mind to it.

So my question is if anybody knows any suitable universities which accept International students and are preferably in Tokyo/Kyoto , but I'm open to any location.

I'm looking to get into a decent course (Medicine, IT/Computer Science, Nuclear physics), pretty much anything which is high leveled and would get a decent pay.

I've had a look at some universities but I had trouble navigating through them and finding the proper information, so any help would be great!

Check out the Global 30 website here. Some of those universities have undergrad programs you can take in English but they are restricted to certain majors depending on the school.

Do you have nikyuu? If you do, you can enroll in any Japanese university as long as you pass the entrance exam. I don't know any university which does not accept foreign students (as long as you pay tuition fee ). However, very few offer English curriculum, but they are just so-so universities here Famous ones teach undergrad only in Japanese.

If your Japanese proficiency is not nikyuu yet, you can take 6 months language training and then take the entrance exam. Given your confidence in your academic performance, I believe it just the matter of hard work for you to enroll in a university.

Why don't you consider MEXT program for undergraduate? You'll have one year for learning Japanese (and enjoy life) and prepare for the entrance exam. However, I think the number of recipients for the US is very limited, and thus make the program highly competitive. But why not give it a try

Another option is that you pay your own expense for your Japanese training here (if needed) and for the first year at university. The tuition fee in Japan is rather low (around 6000/a year I believe - and you can even apply for tuition reduction, especially in public universities). But the cost of living is rather expensive But sure you can manage it if you'd want to by doing part time job (i.e. teaching English - very well-paid compared to other part-time job). It's even better when you can speak Japanese After one year (or a semester, I'm not sure), you can apply for many scholarships here, though those may not be as abundant as MEXT.

My advice: try to get nikyuu, then get in a good university one (yes, Toudai, Kyodai are the best here ) rather than enrolling in an average one.
