Studying Abroad in Japan

W00t~! Yeah, umm... In 11th grade, I'm most likely going to do a home stay-studying abroad thingy for a year in Japan... Ummm, I just wanted to ask some basic questions:

-Would I be able to to pick where in Japan I wanted to go? (I know for the year stay you switch about 3 times)

-Would I have to take classes in Japanese? If so, how would tat work if I'm not fluent?

-Would there be any classes in English?

-What are some things I should be aware of which Japanese families do?

Well, if I think of more questions... i'll ask XD

p.p.s. I'm asking these types of questions because I have a friend who was only studying Japanese for about 6 months and he went at the beginning of 11th grade (last year...?), and since obviosloy he wasn't fluent, how would these types of things go?

Answers in order. (I'm going to a study-abroad thing in Japan in August)

1. No.

2. Umm, yes, you are going to take classes in Japanese, just like any Japanese student. The purpose of exchanges are not academical, but rather cultural. You might get a year behind when you go back.

3. Yes, Japanese schools have English classes, from what I heard. 6 years compulsory.

I'm certain that the people in the rotary club are far more qualified to answer questions about their own program than myself. I recommend asking them about the specifics.

As for specific cultural things; just poke around and you'll all sorts of information on living with a Japanese family.
