Hello,
I just finished the chapter concerning ''possessive pronouns'' and i really want to move on to a higher level, but before that i want to check the correctness of these senstences i've made.i will be very grateful if you could tell me whether i've made mistakes somewhere

• Sentence 1:

Whose is this?:hungry:
kore wa dare no desu ka?

• Sentence 2:

Whose book is this?
kore wa dare no hon desu ka?

• Sentence 3:

IT's my book.:roflmao:
watashi no hon desu

• Sentence 4:

'THIS/THAT' is my book.
'kore/sore' wa watasi no hon desu.

• Sentence 5:

'THIS/THAT' is mine.
'kore/sore' wa watashi no desu.

• Sentence 6:

Is 'IT' your book ?
anata no hon desu ka ?

• Sentence 7:

Is 'THE' book yours ?:x3:
hon wa anata no desu ka ?

• Sentence 8:

Is tomato vegetable ?
tomato wa yasai desu ka ?

• Sentence 9:

Is 'THIS/THAT' your book ?
'kore/sore' wa anata no hon desu ka ?

• Sentence 10:

• Sentence 11:

'kare/kanojo' no hon desu.

What is 'THIS/THAT'?
'kore/sore' wa nan desu ka ?

What animal is 'THIS/THAT' ?
'kore/sore' wa nanda Dōbutsu desu ka ?

• Sentence 15:

Is 'IT' a book ?ompous:
hon desu ka ?

• Sentence 16:

Is 'THIS/THAT' a book?:banghead:

"It" in #3, 6, 10 or 15 can be "sore". It totally depends on the context/what "it" refers to.

Only #14 is wrong. The rest is OK.

Toritoribe-san thank you very much for your answer !!
So when you say that '' "It" in #3, 6, 10 or 15 can be "sore" '' is that mean that these 4 sentences are ''grammatically correct'' (without considering the context) ?
And how to make 14 correct ?

It's grammatically correct in the same sense as "'THIS/THAT' is my book" can be "watashi no hon desu".
As for #14, the problem is the form "nanda". This is form "nani + copula da", whereas "what" in "what animal" is attributive/adjectival.

What animal is THIS ?
kono(kore?) dōbutsu wa dare desu ka?

Who is this student ?
kono(kore?) gakusei wa dare desu ka ?

Who is he/she ?
kore(kono?) wa dare desu ka ?
(kono(kare?) kare/kanojo wa dare desu ka ?)

How do I know when to use the proper ko-so-a-do demonstratives (kore or kono :nailbiting::nailbiting:? sore or sono?:nailbiting::nailbiting:...)

"Dare" means "who". It can't be used for animal.

Kono/sono/ano/dono is attributive. It's used when modifying nouns. On the other hand, Kore/sore/are/dore performs as a noun.
e.g.
This is an animal.
Kore wa dōbutsu desu.

That animal is dog.
Ano dōbutsu wa inu desu.

Thus, kono dōbutsu means "this animal"

"What is this animal?" is relatively easy; Kono dōbutsu wa nan desu ka?
However, Kore wa nanno dōbutsu desu ka? is a bit awkward for "What animal is this?". If you are asking the name of the animal, Kore wa nan to iu namae no dōbutsu desu ka? or Kono dōbutsu no namae wa nan desu ka? (i.e. What is the name of this animal?") is more common.
