How is terrorism a western concept? What exactly are you sick of?
Before 11/9 there is nothing like Terrorism, but after 11/9 this word shown up,so i am sick of hearing it.
Eh?? Um... wait you see the current conflict in Thailand as a religious battle between Buddhist and Muslims, and you see the Pacific War between Japan and the US as a religious war between Buddhists and Christians???? Holy generalizations Batman!
Not the current conflict dude !
Pattani, Thailand - Wikipedia

And not Japan-USA war !

What planet are you talking about :P There was plenty of talk of Terrorism before 9/11, just not centered around the US, and not as much from Middle-Eastern based lunatic religious groups.

BTW, the links you posted don't really GO TO anything. What are you talking about?

As for Roland stating that attacking a persons religion is attacking them... No, it isn't. It might be perceived as attacking them, but that mentality is actually VERY dangerous. It's the same mentality that shows up with nationalistic behavior (an example of this would be a nationalistic Chinese person from mainland China, and being offended at ANY criticism of China's policies), and anyone who replaces their personal identity with an objective concept because they cannot move beyond that frame of mind. It is a very low, uneducated, and fearful mentality, that isn't something that should be tip-toed around, but faced and spoken about.

You can find ANYTHING to get offended about, but it's critical that you ask YOURSELF why you are offended. Most people never take that extra step in their mind.

I'm curious how many people here have the slightest idea what they're talking about.

I don't see a lot worth defending in what "South Park" did. Insulting someone just to provoke them?

If that were what the show is about, I would agree with you, but that's not what the show is about.

You must have missed the troubles in Northern Ireland then.
here is a nice long list of terrorist groups currently active in the world. If you'll care to notice they are not all islamic nutters
List of designated terrorist groups - Wikipedia

I noticed you side-stepped my question on how it is okay by muslim standards to mock all the prophets except Mohammad. Jesus has been mocked for years. Noah, Moses, Adam have all been poked fun at, yet as soon as Mohammad has even the slightest criticsim made against him, some of which are prefectly valid, muslims go into anger overload. You can even mock god and not recieve such an angry backlash. From my point of view, and many in the west, Mohammad has become the central point of Islam, not Allah. I know of people will even refer to Islam in its antiquated form of Mohammadanism and followers as Mohammadans (there is even a member on Eupedia who does this). The reason is because it is more a worship of Mohammad than god.

Because when you make a religion... you don't want to be made fun of by everyone :P

Awww, I miss Achmed. So stereotypical, yet best puppet in the world besides Erine

Mocking peoples' faith is not of Freedom of speech,WHY Jesus ? Mohammad ? Budha ? ..!
Please think about it,There are things we have to respect,Can't they live without mocking religions ?
Also,Why don't the other people learn from Japanese people how to be respectful ?

Um, yes. Yes, it is.

You have no right "not to be offended."

THIS is why it was censored:
behead_those_who_insult_islam_london-1.webp

web0203islam6-1.webp

And the sweet irony:

So in response, someone hacked the threatening group's website, and that hacking (and the resulting image) made it to the Huffington Post: Revolution Muslim, Website Of Group That Threatened Comedy Central, Is Hacked

And responses were forthcoming:

And someone even came up with the "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day":
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/comic-riffs/2010/04/everybody_draw_mohammed_day_ga.html

But the thing is, no one ever talks about this image of Mohammed that is on the Supreme Court building in DC:

(And, hey, he's holding the Koran in his left hand, too. I'm waiting for the people to freak out about that.)

This is the result of mocking peoples' religion,It started with drawing, and grow up to protesting and then to a big mess.
I so if people show some respect there will be no hate, nothing like what happend above.

Could you people understand ?

Other religions get made fun of all the time, and nothing ever comes of it. Do you think what the people are threatening in the pictures above is an acceptable response?

What is really ironic is the thing they are telling to "go to hell" there is exactly the reason they are even allowed to stand there and voice their opinion.

I'm pretty sure, too, that the "mocking" of Islam began *after* there something to make fun of -- i.e., Islamofascist terrorism.

As long as mocking peoples' religion is acceptable,YES it's acceptable.

Don't start it and complain !

You know, from everything you have posted on here, I don't think you really mean that Hezam.

As much as I totally disagree with you 90% of the time, and attack your arguments like a rabid poodle, I find it hard to believe that you think insulting ANY religion is worthy of death threats, which sometimes lead to actual murders just because someone said something another person doesn't agree with about a religion.

Well, at least someone is on the other side of the argument, otherwise this would be a damn boring and mostly "whiny" thread. So I gotta at least thank you for that.

I did not say that he deserve death threats !! this is not what i am thinking !
But they have to stop mocking religions.i was comparing the two points ( mocking and threating ),threating is a result of mocking !

:D you are totally crazy guy.Lol

No, that is hardly an answer. That's like saying you shouldn't say the word "abortion" because some crazy guy might hear you and murder you. Who would live life like this?

Why, why, why, why, why?

You have still not provided an answer and you have ignored my previous post.

LOL, I asked my 5 year old son why big bird is so tall, and he answered me , b/c he is big bird...

Derfel, sometimes you just have concede to the fact that you are dealing with minds the equivalent of a 5 year old.

Opinion | Not Even in South Park? (Published 2010)

"...if a violent fringe is capable of inspiring so much cowardice and self-censorship, it suggests that there's enough rot in our institutions that a stronger foe might be able to bring them crashing down. "

Well said, and decent article.

Honestly, for a network that prides itself on comedy and satire, it is literally a disgrace that they tucked their tails and ran the way they did.

Granted, but when you're dealing with deranged homicidal maniacs who will take down entire planes and buildings and kill hundreds for no other reason than they want to make a point, I can understand Comedy Central's position.

What we *need* is a willingness to man up and say we're not going to put up with that sort of thing and stomp on it like a cockroach everywhere it rears its head. But today we're all goody-goody feel-good, and even in a theater of operations our forces aren't allowed to fire even when fired on for fear of hitting a non-combatant. When your enemy doesn't give a damn about the non-combatants and even uses them as shields -- firing from schools, putting ammo dumps in mosques, etc. -- you've lost.

There's a reason this cartoon is pithy: It's because it's true.
