1/休日は家で仕事をしないことにしているのに、今週はどうしても金曜日に終わらせることができず、持って帰ってきた。

Even I decide not to work at home on holidays, since there is no way I can finish the work this week by Friday, I took it home.

Does 持って帰ってきた mean he took the materials home? (''it'' = ''material'')

2/就職したのだから、もっと社会人らしくしなさい。

Because there is a new employment person, plus one more social member.

Don't understand what is らしくしなさい. らしい + a order?

3/彼女は体がじょうぶで、病気らしい病気をしたことがない。

Because she got a good health, even when she is sick it seems like she isn't sick at all. (?)

4/うちに来る友人に、飲みものを買ってきてくれるように頼んだ。

I've got a request from friends who come to my house to buy drinks. (?)

1) "I make it a habit not to do work at home on days off, but I just couldn't finish my work this Friday, so I brought it home with me."
Yes, 持って帰っ てきた refers to the work, or material.

2) "You've applied for work, so act more like a working person (or professional, or whatever)."
しなさい is an order. らしい means something like "in a manner befitting" in this case.

3) It's more like "she's never had what you would call an illness," or something along those lines.

4) "I've asked one/some of my friends who's coming to buy some drinks on the way over."

1) 良さ is a noun form of 良い, and it can be glossed as "goodness", although here it's more like "good things". "Cities have their good parts, and the countryside has its good parts."

2) 倒れそうになる means "to be about to fall over". When そうになる is attached to the masu stem of a verb, it means "be about to".
急に is an adverb meaning "suddenly". The speaker is asking the people in front of them to let them sit down.
You seem to be having problems with particles. 前にいた人頼んで... not 前にいた人頼んで...

3) Yes.

Thanks for the help. Some more...

1/年のせいか、このごろ物忘れがひどい。

This year is terrible that I want to forget.

What's せいか doing here? ''Because some unknown reasons in this year.''?

2/幼い弟は思いどおりにならないと大声で泣く。

I don't think that my young brother cries with a very big voice. (?)

3/議長は時間に関して寂しいので、絶対遅刻はできない。

I can't understand the first phrase, the second phrase is ''he is surely can't be late''.
Is 時間に関して寂しい an idiom? Something like: ''he care a lot about time''?

4/学校で習ったんだけど、このあたりは昔、海だったんだ って。

I learned from school that this place long time ago belong to the sea.

What the hell is けど doing here?

I think it is not the train but the passengers on the train that suddenly feel as if they are about to fall over.

倒れそうな私を抱きとめてくれそうな前にいた人

What you are doing here is just to GUESS the meaning only from the words you know. It's not TRANSLATING. For instance, (物)忘れ shows that (物)忘れ is a noun and not a verb, nevertheless you interprited it "want to forget". Where is "want" from? You interpreted せいか correctly, but 年 has another meaning. Check a dictionary, as nekojita-san adviced you in another thread.

寂しい must be a typo of 厳しい.

倒れそうな私を抱きとめてくれそうな前にいた人

Thanks. Your interprete makes a lot of sense now.

I'll try the second time:

1/年のせいか、このごろ物忘れがひどい。

Because of age, at this time forgetfulness is terrible.

2/幼い弟は思いどおりにならないと大声で泣く。

My young brother cries with a big voice when it doesn't become like he thought.

3/Yes, it was a typo. Make sense now.

4/学校で習ったんだけど、このあたりは昔、海だったんだって。

I learned from school that this place long time ago belong to the sea.

1)
Who do you think the subject of the sentence is?
Unlike せいで, せいか shows uncertainness.

I don't know. I don't really understand the sentence. The subject is an old man maybe?

Yes, that's right. The subject is the speaker/writer, and he/she would be an old person. You can think it as このごろ私は物忘れがひどい.

Alright, here are some more:

1/バッグに定期を入れたつもりだったが、駅でないことに気がついた。

I plan to put a season ticket in the bag but, I learned a few thing at the station.

It has to be 定期券 isn't it? I wonder why is 定期?

2/その件に関しましたは、後ほどご説明いたします。

Regarding this case, do an explaination now than later.

Is it right?

3/望みどおりの大学に合格できた。

Success in (entering) university as wish.

Is it right?

What's the difference between the two sentences? Did you interprit ないこと as "a few thing"?

It has to be 定期券 isn't it? I wonder why is 定期?
It's quite common to abbreviate 定期乗車券 to 定期.

2 「定期乗車券」の略。「―入れ」
定期 - goo辞書

2/その件に関しましたは、後ほどご説明いたします。
Regarding this case, do an explaination now than later.
その件に関しまし

後[のち]ほど is not "後 + ほど" here. It's one word, meaning "later".

3/望みどおりの大学に合格できた。
Success in (entering) university as wish.
Is it right?
できた is the past tense.

Thanks.

What's the difference between the two sentences? Did you interprit ないこと as "a few thing"?

Nope. I look at a japanese online dictionary and that's what it gave for ないこと. So the speaker try to tell he lose it?

その件に関しましては

後[のち]ほど is not "後 + ほど" here. It's one word, meaning "later".

You're right I forgot to type the て.

できた is the past tense.

''Success'' to ''Succeeded'' maybe?

I looked up 気がついた in the dictionary and it tell the meaning is ''noticed''. Is ''noticed it gone'' what you meant?

Thanks for your help.

So, what's your translation of the whole sentence?

1/練習が辛くて泣くぐらいなら、やめてしまいなさい。

It's better to stop than practicing too hard. (?)

2/校長先生をはじめ、先生方には大変お世話になりました。

At the beginning of a headmaster, it's hard to look after the teachers. (?)

3/私にとっての故郷とは、青春時代を過ごしたあの町しかない。

I don't know what's とは doing here, so... ええと:

Compare to my town, this town only too young.

4/半年勉強したので、簡単な会話ぐらいならできる。

Because I studied for half-year, I can do simple conversation.

ぐらい + なら here = if right? -> ''If it's simple conversation then I can do''.

Please explain. Thanks.

1)
What is the traslation of 辛くて泣く?

2)
をはじめ works as a listing particle.
大変 is an adverb.

3)
とは is for explanation.
過ごす and 過ぎる are different.

4)
No. This なら is not for conditional. The conditional なら is from the conditional form of the copula だ, whereas this なら is an adverbial particle which is from the imperfective from of an auxiliary verb なり. The formar is attached to a predicative(verb/adjective), and the latter is attached to a noun. 会話ぐらい performs as a noun.

ぐらい is an adverbial particle to express degree.

1/ ''painful that makes you cry''?

2/''I greatly indebted the teachers, from the headmaster to below''?

3/I don't really get this. ''My hometown is a town only pass it's young time'' (?)

4/That's makes lots of sense. Thanks.
