Are you traveling around the near year's day? If so, where would that be? I am looking for a nice venue in the Tokyo area for a single guy to hang out. It would be nice to be with the crowd who speaks English as I am comfortable in that environment.

Whatever you do, try not to go out and drink too much. When I lived in Tokyo in the past, I did that for New Year's Eve, and the result was, well, not good :redface:One more drink and I woulda been TOAST, but it sure made for a great story.

In Japan, there's nothing more traditional than watching Kohaku Uta Gassen on New Year's Eve. As for me, here in Philadelphia, I'll be in my living room watching Dick Clark's "New Year's Rockin' Eve" on my big screen TV. No way will I be outside at the magic hour, what with the double whammy of drunk drivers and knuckleheads who feel compelled to ring in the new year by firing their guns into the air, heedless of where the bullets end up landing. Anyhoo, I hope you have a nice time, Glenski!

Kohaku is really boring. I have never been able to sit and watch the entire show. Its just something I can't do. Kind of like some people can't eat various food because of allergy or it makes them sick. Well, thats my feeling towards Kohaku.

In Tokyo the trains run 24 hours on New Years eve. Wish they could do that every day though or atleast on weekends. There is Pride, K-1 and Okamura's comedy special which I always found to be hillarious.

Here in Norway. I am home with family. Have no plans of going out. Have cracked open a bottle of wine and just finished dinner. Was planning to go snowboarding in the holidays but we have no snow here.

I don't think many people shoot guns into the air in California, thankfully! My poor dog already hides in the corner because of fireworks, haha. Unfortunately, drunk drivers are still a problem. I'm probably going to try to go out anyway, though. I have some friends who invited me over who I haven't seen in a long time.

I have no idea why people here feel compelled to ring in the new year by firing weapons, something that's not only stupid but dangerous, especially since bullets, like everything else, is affected by gravity, in other words, what goes up eventually comes down. A few years ago, that ended in tragedy as a teenager was struck by someone's bullet fired into the air and wound up a paraplegic. To this day, the knucklehead responsible for that terrible has yet to have been caught. Meanwhile, that poor kid will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. The police here have worked like gangbusters to find and catch these fools who shoot their guns (whether or not it's limited to Philadelphia is a mystery to me), but, sadly, this warped little tradition continues.

thanks for advice, but I just saw it anyway, i dint got drunk, not even close.

i had quite nice time with my friends around tokyo tower. actually, we were somewhere in the crowd in front of temple..
