Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience of good/easy to get to places to go around Tokyo for a day's boarding?

Last two weeks, I have been going to Karuzawa which is only 1h20m from Tokyo station on the bullet and really convenient for messing around in the snow. Trip is good value @ 11000 yen for train and lifts.

Can anyone suggest alternatives?

Thanks

Gala Yusawa is a pretty weak mountain, but it's very close. Very, very easy to do a daytrip. If you catch the 6AM train out, you can get a full day of boarding in, and get back to town by 6PM.

Apparently you can catch a cab and go just up the road from Gala, and there's a much better area, although I don't know the name.

I went to Naeba which is - I think - one stop closer to Tokyo than Gala. Really good weekend skiing, very good powder there - several feet in some places!

Thanks, I went to Kagura at the same train stop as Naeba. Station is Echigo-Yuzawa.

That was much better that Karuzawa and 1h15m from Tokyo on the Shinkosen.

You can ski into Tashiro resort on the same pass, but the slopes are much flatter on that side.

Probably will try there again.

Thanks

Mike
