It's the time of the season when tailcoats are spotted at Yasukuni.

Last Friday, Minister of Defense Nobuo Kishi, Mr Abe's half-brother, and Minister of Economic Revitalization, Yasutoshi Nishimura, visited the Yasukuni Shrine to pray for Japan's 2.4 million war dead. Yesterday, the Minister of Environment, Shinjiro Koizumi, the Minister of Education, Koichi Hagiuda, and the Minister for the World Expo, Shinji Inoue, separately went to the shrine. PM Suga sent an offering out of his own pocket as the leader of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, having laid flowers at the nearby Chidorigafuchi National Cemetery before giving a speech at a memorial ceremony. Promptly, the governments of South Korea and China severely blasted their visits. Abe was the last PM who visited the shrine during his tenure in 2013. Yasukuni is controversial because it also enshrines 14 Class A war criminals.
