WOW, took a half hour to download & install with Road Runner Cable hook-up. My system is fairly fast but it still took about 30 Min start to restart! Sure wouldn't want to do it on a slow phone modem.

Frank

PS - It let me download manually today for the first time. I signed up for auto download 5 days ago & it never did?
This is for the HOME version, not the PRO.Good luck!

It didnt really take me very long. I however go and make a sandwich,oh time flies when your making a sandwich.

yeah i just reformated and updated to sp1 and it was over 50mb, not too long to dl but the install took awhile. havent dont sp2 yet still messing about with things getting myself back to semi normal.

was quite fast for me...although microsoft limits the server speed to 512kb/s.
Only problem was when I restarted my comp...had to wait -_-
BTW remember one thing after installing SP2: disable the win-xp firewall !!

Anyone here that currently uses Windows Themes (by replacing the needed .dll file) tried updating to SP2 and what happens? I'm currently in that situation and I don't want to redo the theme installation again.

Check the MS list of software known to have issues with SP2. Be sure to also follow the links, there are even more programs with problems.

it will prolly make a new windows copy of the .dll over top of yours so i guess youll have to save the one to a different location and copy over. same thing i have to do with my modded icon .dll

I was talking to one of the I.T. guys here at work yesterday about service pack 2. He warned me that if you are using things like outlook etc (stuff with passwords) to be careful because SP2 deleted most of the passwords for everyones email and server log-ons etc.....

My PC now seems to be running really slow on initial log-in after instaling the SP2, why?

because it's updating all the files lol
also you might need to reinstall some of your drivers...

I don't know if it was in this forum, but I remember someone mentioning that after installing SP2, it'll take like half an hour for this next boot-up to do all its stuff.

Well, all this really doesn't sound all that great... guess I'd better wait some more until I apply this SP2.

I Found.....

running a scandisk and Defrag helped speed things up a little.
