gwendy85, what do you want those translation for?
I mean, there are many other ways to say those phrases besides Karamucho mentioned above.
You know, man and woman speak differently, same applies to a child and an adult, friendly person and blunt person and whatnot.

You could also say (if you want to say it in a very polite way):
1) Douzo, Ochimashita yo. (More natural conversation, I think, "Ano, ochimashita yo." would fit)

2) Shinasete kudasai. Douka(onegai dakara), shinasete kudasai.

3) Machigai arimasen ka? /Hontou desuka?

(And yet, I'm not taking "WW2" thing into consideration... I don't know how they would say back then... I wasn't born yet...lol )

上の文は、おじさんが使いそうなイメージがないといいね。
日本語は６０、７０年前とはずい分変わってしっまたんですが、この例文は同じようだと思いますね。

Sorry For The Absolutely Late Post!!!



Sumimasen for the super late post! I got lost somewhere and only found it today!

Thank you so much for the translations! And yes, thank you, Elizabeth, for remembering that I'm writing a novel. It's entitled "Fires & Embers" now. Main character is a nineteen-year-old (1941) guy named Matsushima Kazuo. 'Course, since this spans 'til 1945...

I'm still having a hard time finding a Japanese beta-reader or critique partner for it. I'm mostly looking for some translation corrections and to see if the attitude is consistent with a Japanese.

Guess I'll have to wish for more luck, eh? I'm almost finished, so I might do a thorough hunt later.
