Sentence mining from books???

I personally find reading books and taking words and sentences from them easier, and I don't necessarily care 100% about efficiency. My main goals so far have been reading and that's about it so I made the decision to start sentence mining from books (starting tomorrow when the books arrive.)

I should also mention that I got books at a level I'm comfortable with, like children's books.

So in short, is sentence mining from books good and can anybody give me any guidance?

I think it's a good idea. Books should contain more proper Japanese and less colloquial language than some manga. But basically the more exposure and the more types of exposure the better. I suggest trying to learn some representative sentences and store them in your mind. You probably find some good examples in the books.
For example the classic:
これはほんです。 This is a book.
Once you learn this form you can basically say "this is a <something>" for just about anything.
