Sentence help

Hi, I've recently made the transition from studying just vocabulary to studying full sentences, and it's stretching me pretty nicely. I came across a sentence and its translation, but I can't figure out how/why this sentence means what it does.

ある学生に会うところです。
I'm meeting a certain student.

what I know:
ある学生: a certain student
合う: to meet
ところ: place

It seems to me like it is saying a certain student is a meeting place. I guess I'm still very new to the grammar of 日本語.

ところ can be used for time as well. I would translate it to 'about to' as in, I'm about to meet a certain student. But when translating Japanese to English, it's not always a one-to-one thing, so you need to be flexible in your translating.
