can i check if there are any site that shows for this year sakura ?? I remember there's a site that i can view ... where it shows me in different colors and the status of sakura blooming in each state...
Another friend told me again that Sakura is blooming in Tokyo... not sure if it's true though..

plum blossoms appear to be blooming, but they are supposed to go first. Every day, I ride along one of the most famous riversides for sakura viewing, and I haven't seen any pink.

I was at the Imperial Garden today and there wasn't a single cherry blossom in sight. The plum blossoms are just now starting to come in; there are trees that are partially blooming, and several which had yet to begin. Nothing was in full bloom by a longshot.

It seems that kan-zakura (a kind of sakura that blooms in winter) started blooming in Shinjuku-Gyoen.

So......now it is time for count down to sakura blooming and hanami time!
From todays Mainichi:
"Record early bloom for cherry blossoms
Agency officials said on Wednesday that an unusually warm winter has led to the early blossoming of Yoshino cherry trees in western and eastern Japan.
The agency announced the expected blossom dates for cherry trees at 56 locations across Japan. Of the 56 spots, 42 are expected to bloom more than three days earlier than usual.
Agency officials expect the cherry trees to come into blossom in central Tokyo on March 18, 10 days earlier than normal and the second earliest date since the agency began keeping records on cherry blossoms in 1953. They added that cherry trees are expected to blossom in Nagoya and Fukuoka on March 20, and in Osaka on March 25, five to eight days earlier than average.
The national average temperature was 1.52 degrees Celsius higher than normal from December to February, tying past records.
However, officials added that the expected blossoming dates could be delayed if temperatures are lower than forecasted. The temperature is set to drop across Japan next week, with rain and even snow expected in some areas." (Mainichi)

What you saw on the website is correct.
There's a huge cherry tree on my way home, and I look it up every morning/evening. Although the buds are plumping little by little, they are still firm. Also there's one of the famous spots for Sakura near my office, and I can see it from high above everyday. All the tree still look grey and bare, without blossom, and of course, without any leaves...

That's hard to say, because when the blossoms reach full bloom depends largely on what kind of weather we'll have in the next week or two.
If the blossoms bloom as projected, the flowers will have passed full bloom on the 28th...
Although this is all in Japanese, you can see photos of the current state of cherry blossoms across Japan, reported by local TV stations and viewers.

According to this, the cherry blossoms in Tokyo have reached 50% average, though the buds remain firm and not likely to blossom anytime soon in my neighborhood. The trees that have blossomed are early-blooming varieties and not the Somei Yoshino that is regarded the "standard" cherry tree.

Oh, no! Like I said earlier, it all depends on the weather and temperature we'll have in the next week or two. There might be blossoms still on the 28th, but the chances are higher on the 24th...hmmm so i will miss sakura when i'm in Japan huh??
how abt in Osaka?? I'll be going osaka on 24th to 27th and returning to Tokyo on 28th...
Should i stay in Tokyo on 24th instead?
But, if you're staying in Osaka around the 24th and later, I'm pretty sure that you will be able to see the blossoms at their best there rather than in Tokyo...

Last week, the Meteorological Agency said cherry blossoms would start blooming in Shizuoka, central Japan, on March 13, and in Takamatsu and Matsuyama in western Japan on March 17. This would have been the earliest start to the season on record.
The agency had also forecast an early start to the season in Tokyo on March 18, 10 days earlier than usual.
But the cherry blossoms in Shizuoka were not blooming on Tuesday, as predicted.
Weather officials then checked their computer calculations and found they had entered the wrong data for temperatures in December.
As a result, the agency's forecast dates were too early, by 9 days for Takamatsu and 6 days for Shiozuoka and Matsuyama, and 3 days too early for Tokyo.
This is the first forecasting miscalculation since the agency began computerized forecasts in 1996. " NHK.

I'm waiting for the nice temperatures we had until last Monday to come back. Why did it have to get cold again?!
Well, God works in strange ways to find the "default" settings, I guess...
The National Meteorological Agency had installed a new computer system, and they still have to learn to use it!
Despite miscalculations, the predicted blooming dates are still much too early...
