According to the Japan Meteorological Corporation, cherry trees in Tokyo are expected to begin flowering on 23 March and reach full bloom around 30 March. This is a day earlier than the average flowering date. For the 2024 season, cherry blossoms are expected to start a few days earlier than average. The first cherry trees are expected to bloom in Kochi Prefecture around 18 March and the rest of the country will follow as full blooms make their way north to Hokkaido by around 2 May.

Due to higher-than-usual temperatures in November and December, western and eastern Japan will most likely see cherry blossoms bloom early.
