avoid Sakura House in Tokyo

stayed at one of their cockroach infested gaijin houses for 3 months and had many unpleasant experiences with the staff - I'm fluent in Japanese(I'm an IT consultant here in Tokyo and do all my business in Japanese) so its not something you can put down to communication or cultural differences. I'm now in an apartment with lovely neighbours and my real estate agent and I have the occasional drink at the local izakaya - couldn't be happier!!

Sounds like Apple house to me (if it still exists). Lots of stupid rules but I met lots of cool people that stayed there. I only stayed a weekend while helping my buddy relocate to Tokyo. Needless to say he got out of that place in a month.

i found this thread helpful actually, as i was looking into sakura house. But they arent all that much cheaper.

Anyone has any experience at sakura house? they advertise a lot on the internet.

While, perhaps, the thread could very well be helpful, I cannot put out the flickering thought that comes to mind--namely, that Sakura House could be some sort of conspiracy.

Intersting. I've stayed in Sakura Hotel in Jimbocho (run by the same people) and found it very good for the money.

It would be useful (and fair) if members could be more specific on their complaints about Sakura House. "They had lots of stupid rules" doesn't allow me to decide whether to steer clear of it or not. Rules that seem stupid to you, may not seem stupid to someone else.

I don't know if its 'stupid rules' as one poster put it, just more like they are not willing to be flexible on anything regardless of circumstances.

I stayed at SH for 3 months as I'd relocated and had quite a deal of stuff I'd brought with me or sent before I left and needed a place with space to store it. I was still getting settled with work as well. After 3 months I couldn't bear it anymore so put my things in storage and moved into a much smaller place until I could find an apartment I was happy with.
I did meet a bunch of nice French people on holiday at SH though.
