I was wondering about Saiyuki. Is it any good? I have the 2nd book manga and I really liked it and I have the first season on it's way to me so I'm really excited about it! I can't wait to watch it! XD My favorite character is Hakkai! Whee! So kawaii! *giggles* I just wanted to start a convo on this Saiyuki.

I have read some of the manga and have watched the anime. I think it is a great series, but it's all about what you like.

Personally I absolutely hated it when I watched the first five episodes of the tv show. I mean I hated it! >___> However, the more I got into it, the better it got. Now I'm absolutely hooked on that show. My best friend is obsessed with it, and won't settle for anything less than ADV Films doing the dubbing. So much so, that when Genon got Saiyuki Reloaded, he was royally pissed when his favorite voices weren't in the show. Personally I didn't really mind much other than the fact that Goku sounded like a retarded monkey on cocaine, and Hakkai sounded like a scholar close to being a homosexual. Other than that, I loved Reloaded, espeically the Urasai.

Overall, I love Saiyuki and just can't get enough of it! Does anybody know if they made a videogame off of it in Japan? That'd be cool if the did. BTW Hakkai is my favorite character.

Interesting version of the Journey to the West story.

Too bad that Gokuu's (Or Gokong or what ever) role was toned down in this version, in the other versions Gokuu is basically the lead character that dictated on how the story goes. In this version, he looked so domesticated, even when he was in prison before Sanzo released him. Gokuu looked more like a pet monkey rather than a wild crazy monkey that is pretty hard to tame and discpline, not that Gokuu looked like a monkey in this version.

It's interesting that the role of the pig become a polite character (though it's true that his downfall like in the other versions is that he become too focused on one woman), while the role of the pond monster (or what ever) become a womanizing character (the lack of intelectual capacity though it's similiar to the other version), what a total reversal of characters.

Sanzo though seems to be quite inline (relatively speaking) with the other versions of Sanzo.



Nevertheless, if one like this series, maybe one also like the Wolf's Rain series (I only watched the anime), which also features a bunch of bishounen travelling to search for something. Wolf'S Rain have too much bishounen element though, which kinda make it look like they are a bunch of pretty boys rather wolves, I mean that, why the heck should a bunch of wolves pretend to be humans when they're with each other? That scene of Toboe licking Tsume's wound is quite er..., suffice to say that if they were shown in their true wolf nature, that would look right, but as human looking, it plainly said 'yaoi'.

Yay! I got the Season One DVD set yesterday and I watched about 20 episodes already and I like it very much. It;'s only In Subbed but that's the way I want it. So good and I love Hakkai even more now. I do love the other characters too but Hakkai I my favorite.

Hey Nightwalker you still have to show me those dvd boxset. I know not right know but soon. You got me all into Saiyuki now and i am all into the charaters and somewhat into the storyline. You were the one to get me right into anime too. Cardcaptors, Chobits, Ikki Tousen and my favorite manga is Tsubasa, ok ok I know that has nothing to do with Saiyuki but thats why you love me I'm random. Yayness for the Random! *dances around for no reason* YAY!

On the 4th disk it's a new opening and ending. Theirs new translation font too and it goes off the screen sometimes. Plus, whoever did the translation did a HORRIBLE job! The have such bad grammer and don't even capitalize most of the time. It's so confusing and makes me not want to watch the rest of the series. T_T It's too good to be messed around with.
