Reentry procedures with 'Japanese' children

Have any spouse or PR visa holders actually re-entered Japan (since last November), without their Japanese spouse, but travelling with their child/children and them holding Japanese passports.

What happened at immigration? Was there any fuss? Were people forced to separate? First hand accounts please.

Out of curiosity have any teachers accompanied young Japanese students on home-stay trips under these new rules? Any problems?

Apologies if this was answered already in the larger threads - but I don't think there's any harm in making a fresh entry.

If I know what to expect I can 'gaman' just about any level of petty bureaucracy.

Yes, many have.

At immigration, many have reported that they were allowed to go through the reentry permit line with the J family. The only problem I have seen is when they choose to go through the automated gates at Narita. Even if the foreigner has pre-registered, the J family has not, and they are not allowed through because ... guess why?... it's automated (no staff to see and check passports).

I'm glad I thought to ask - it reminded me to check my son's Japanese passport expiry date - exactly three days before we're booked to depart this July! Camera shop here we come...
