Recommend some martial arts movies?

I'd really like to stock up on some good martial arts movies, but its been absolutely ages since i last bought such movies and i've missed out on a lot of the more recent releases. So i'm really not sure on what is actually worth buying or not- my tastes are quite varied in martial arts movies, i really like Azume 1 & 2, KillBill vol1 & 2, most of the Bruce Lee movies (particularly "Dragon- a Bruce Lee story) house of flying daggers, "Once upon a time in China" trilogy etc.

So what would you guys personally recommend me?
I'm looking for something with realistic or relatively realistic fighting in it (not "hidden dragon crouching tiger" style), cool characters and a good plot (doesn't have to be ground-breakingly original or anything like that, as long as the plot is reasonable and enjoyable enough to follow, say like on an Azumi plot goodness level etc). I don't mind what period in time the movie is set in as long as it plays the time period/era well (if the movie is set far back in the past though, i prefer the costumes to be quite historically accurate if posible) .

Any suggestions ?

Well, I would suggest you start your collection with Enter The Dragon. To most fans of the genre, it's simply THE best martial arts movie ever made, and the late Bruce Lee's masterpiece.

How about Jackie Chan's movies? Or are they too much on the humoristic side?
I personally like sa po long (not sure about the spelling) which features some good (realistic) martial art moves though a little too bloody in my opinion.

Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior is very good and a breath of fresh air. It's thai boxing, something not commonly seen in most martial arts films and the choreography is pretty good.

I have to second this one, and the sequel Tom Yum Goong as well. All the stunts are real, no CG, and Tony Jaa is HOT!

The Bad One: The Legend: Yoji Himoru a prisoner and master in Kendo and Jeet Kune Do and masterswordsman, gets free out of jail after 3 years after beeing released he works with a friend thats he knows from prison Sarashina aka 'South Sarashina'. They want to change Japan in all his facets, but they're biggest problem is to get rid of Ko Shufoku a Japanese Boss who washes money white for the Hong Kong mobs.

Typically oldschool movie, with humor,action and drama.
The movie is 2nd ranged so please don't expect special effects and blood.
Good movie to see at home after a good training.

I never saw this type of movie and I got to say it's old and funny but it's a well damned Yakuza movie!

I saw this one clip which lasted about 4mins on Youtube under Capoeira. It has Tony Jaa and some insane Capoeira man doing crazy stuff and kicking Tony Jaa's face all around. I don't know the name of the film, but, if you watch the clip, maybe it'll ring a bell for you. If so, then please reply and tell us what film it is. . . please. Thanx!

I agree, Ong-Bak was a great martial arts movie. I practice Muay Thai style kickboxing so it was quite interesting to see the more artistic and flamboyant moves he employs along with his extreme athleticism. Thai-bred and born thai boxers are equally strong and athletic, but the artistry of their skill and also the methods exported via muay thai schools worlwide are usually nowhere near as complex as in Ong-Bak because despite how well he kicks *** in the film, most of it would not be effective in the ring and thus we never see such things. Still, a great movie I've watched more than once or twice.
