Total guess here, but I would think maybe people from Tokyo. Not sure though, curious myself.

Well, there was a character who they reffered to as an Edokko in the J-drama Trick. He was elderly and He had a curly mustache and was wearing the male kimono with two of his remaining "henchmen".

Traditionally, "Edokko" are people who have lived in the "shitamachi" area of Tokyo (largely eastern part surrounding the Sumida River) for generations. (If you have ever visited Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, you've been to "shitamachi.") They have a special manner of talking--loud, which at first time sounds like they're angry and yelling at you. They are in fact very friendly and will go out of their way to help neighbors and strangers. There are quite a few Westerners who fall in love with them and live in their neighborhood. (The negative aspect is that they butt into your privacy... )
The number of real Edokko is declining, but many of the small shopowners and craftsmen in that area are.
