and about the "chink": I can't see why "Nigger" should be any worse. It's the exact same thing. They're both hugely derogatory and are (almost) never said in a joking manner (unless used by the race it is used about itself.. in which case it is often used light-heartedly). It's just wrong.

Jin's lyrics are mad well written though.. keeping in rhyming fashion and getting your message across that well and with such feeling is not exactly the easiest of tasks

It is OK to make fun of Asians. You can make fun of everyone: mongrel, caucasoid, mongoloid or negroid. Question is how far you should go. But IMO that's more a matter of taste, it shouldn't be a matter of law.

Yes i understand your opinion about making fun of other races, dont think i dont laugh when people make jokes about Chinese people it just depends on the context.
I dont think it is "stupid" they lost their jobs, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that it was gonna piss alot of people off.
IMO there's a fine line between making fun and blaytently taking the piss, in this case i believe it's the latter.

heard this amazingly funny texan stand up comedy guy a few years ago.. he's probably famous, but I can't remember his name... might've been the guy that made that "dear penis" song.

at one point he says "hey there, chinkie"... now that's a "bad" word in my book.. but, the way he was using it made it hilarious somehow.. what he was really joking about was more like the texan ignorance about chinese people. (or some such thing). There's the fine line in my opinion.

I just think it's a dangerous line to walk... if you don't make that joke funny as hell, it's gonna turn on you and go offensive as hell.

I'm glad the signals were too weak to have reached the Indian Ocean, but the US context need not be that sensitive. But as I said, I agree that the content can be construed as hurtful or malicious.

Todd did NOT lose his job. He only got a month's suspension. So what?
His contract is probably intact. I'm afraid the station might even compensate him for taking all the blame the station should have gotten. This is ridiculous. So please don't say "they lost their jobs." That is simply inaccurate.

And although Todd may have a bad mouth, who is his employer? Who pays for his artistic experiments? Who approves a piece and funds its production? Who decides to air it, and continue to air for 4-long days? This is another big show that's meant to trick you. The station's got you hooked again.

I personally would never use the words "Gook", "Nipp", (etc...) because i know which groups those are specific to, so i dont see why other Asians should use Chink which is more specific to Chinese.

I accept that. Every ethnic group, whether Asian, Black, White, Jewish, Irish, or other each have their unique code of behavior, and using the racial slur amongst themselves does seem to be rare Among Asians. But some comedians delve into that, too.

I understand you were offended by the argument between Miss. J and Miss Info. I personally couldn't care less what they had to say. I concentrated on the song piece and from that I drew my own conclusion.

I understand that this argument is not everything; I just hoped that an already confusing situation didn't get even crazier by having false statements (Todd's actually) spreading by us repeating his wishful claim which was quite untrue and misleading according to the link by Lacan.

If I may state my position, I believe the vocalists were simply misinformed, whereas station 97 was deeply involved as the decisive factor and hence should bear the consequences. It is doubly wrong to punish the vocalist or the lyricist who were hired to do the job for the station. The station knew what was going on, and excercised no moderation whatsoever.
