Does anyone ever get those songs, that everytime you listen to it you think of some one or some thing?

I do all the time

Yes! I was having that exact same thought this morning. Like when I hear Nelly Furtado's I'm Like A Bird, I think of the days before my third son was born. Same for Sugar Ray's Someday for the days before my second son was born. Hmmmm...I don't have one that reminds me of my first one.

When I hear Nelly Furtado's Turn out the Lights, I think about 9/11, because I was listening to that CD that morning and that particular song was playing when I first heard about all that stuff going on. Oddly enough, it kind of goes with that day...

All those dance songs like 100% Pure Love, Another Night, and stuff like that remind me of my Freshman year of college, which aren't very pleasant memories.

I could go on and on, but those are the ones that came to mind first. If I sat here for long enough, I could make a looooong list, because songs have such an impact on me. I have a song for everyone and everything, almost...

I think just about every one of Ben Folds Five's songs take me back to places I wish I could revisit somehow and/or sometime.

I get that a lot when I read a good book while a CD is playing in the background. If the player is set on repeat, after some time, the story and the music merge in my brain. So the CD becomes some soundtrack for the book.
I've learned that it's important to choose the right CD for the right book. Because if you don't, some funny things will happen.
e.g. every time I play the F.U.C.K album from Van Halen, I get images of Middle-earth in my head. :p

Thinking about it, that sounds more like conditioning. (like Pawlow's dogs) :)

Yea I always play a Japanese-only tracklist/mix CD when I am studying Japanese, cool thing is I didn't understand it at all at first but now after all my years of progression it's like "the..... her...... blue...... summer time" , and/or "my friend....... something about fishing ....... dinner..."

Beyond - 'As Boundless As Sea and Sky'

everytime I hear this song,
always reminds me of my childhood hero Wong Ka Kui (the guitarist and vocal of legendary Hong Kong rock band Beyond)
he was killed in Japan,in an accident that happened during the recording of TV show 'Ucchan-nanchan no yarunara yaraneba'
he fell from the stage and his head hit the ground.
he passed away just the day before my 8th birthday ten years ago.
he has been a big influence in my life, his music and his words taught me about what is life, love, and dream.

he wrote this song about his life,
fighting for his dream even when being laughed by others

lyric:

'forgive me for being wild and loves freedom for my whole life,
I also fear that someday I will fall'

everytime I hear Carousel by Blink 182 haha It reminds me of an ex-girlfriend because she had that as her ringtone when I would call her phone....

X Japan's "The Last Song" (memorial track) because I remembered them playing that as somewhat of an anthem after Hide died. Great song that always makes me feel kinda melancholy...

Funny, Someday reminds me of my last days of highschool, and one of my best friend's ex girlfriends. I remember the fear of going out into a new world, leaving my old one (I went to a boarding school which was fairly insular). She was always so nice to me, and treated me so unlike many other people so I guess the words are fitting for her. I haven't spoken to her in years (I've tried) but I always think of her when I hear the song.

There are a whole host of other songs which makes my heart go nostalgic, far too many to go on in here.

Hm, yes. When I listen to that audio play, I remember when I was on a train some years ago on the way to Leipzig. It was in autumn. I was nearly in the city and already had the industrial part of the city around me. It was evening, and the orange-red sunlight seemed to give life to the skeletons that remained of some old tall buildings.
Then the train arrived at the station, and I saw her from afar, with her fiery red hair and that long black leather cloak.. hmm, happy memories...

I've got too many of them...
One of the most beautiful, most personal and most painful is "Iris" by GooGooDolls..

As for love interests, the songs are countless, but some of the songs that come to mind are Linger by The Cranberries, Lay Lady Lay by Bob Dylan, At Last by Etta James, Africa by Toto, Die Without You by PM Dawn, Wild Horses by The Sundays(not the Rolling Stones version), and more recently Destiny by Zero 7, Clocks by Coldplay, and of course, The Scientist by Coldplay... ;)

Wow...I told you they were countless. I had to stop myself. I can just keep going and going on love songs that remind me of certain people and/or times...

This is kind of different, but also "soundtracks" from different games remind me of situations.

For example, the Bomberman 64 music reminds me of the time right after I got married, before we left for France on our honeymoon. Anything from Legend of Zelda-Ocarina of Time reminds me of being snowed/iced in one winter about 4 years ago. Especially the music from Zora's Domain.

"Insatiable" by Darren Hayes. I shed tears everytime I listen to the song.........it reminds me of my immortal beloved.

I think almost every song reminds me of something. That would probably becuase I always have a song stuck in my head. Chipi mentioned "Iris." I love that song. It makes me think of the only thing I had for comfort for a while. I won;t say what that was (too personal) but it's a great song anyhow. I forget the name of the song, but there's a song that used to make me think of one of my guy friends. At the time he was going out with one of my best friends. He liked the song and somehow I felt when I listened to it that he would brake up with her. In fact, he did. It's kinda weird. ^^

Rosie, was it a pet dog or cat you pine for?

I wish it was a pet dog or cat. I wouldn't be so heart broken. There was this someone whom I was madly in love with. And he loved me too. :(

Well,it was weird with the "iris" song too...The first two verses were straight from my life and my thoughts when I heard the song for the first time. When I heard it I also somehow knew, and was afraid that also the third verse would soon be true...And so it was...

For me it's Enigmas "Why". A magnificent piece, and very powerful.

I feel the same way about Enigma's Gravity Of Love. That's got to be one of my all-time favorites. I love Enigma.
