Proper name for this laquered wood hair pin

It's called ヘアピン, i.e., "hair pin" also in Japanese.

So when they say "kanzashi" , do they mean just the pin to hold the decoration or the two pieces combined? Interesting what was old is now new again.

Well, kanzashi usually refers to a single pin or double pins with decoration at at the end of it or comb type ones.

I thought the OP's one was a type to bind hair with the curving and pin, so it depends on how it's used.

Sometimes when I Google things I get more confused by their answers than when I started , LOL. Thank you Toritoribe !!

A convenient word has come across my mind; 髪飾り kamikazari, which literally means "hair ornament". This word can be used for all types of hair pins; kanzashi, comb, etc..
