Proof that athletes aren't the smartest of people!

In light of things that have happened lately (NBA brawl, MLB steroids) I thought that I would start a thread dedicated to stupid athletes.

Here is a story to start it off:

Servette player loses finger in goal celebration

The 29-year-old Swiss-Portuguese player jumped up on the fence in celebration after setting up his team's third goal.

Note that he only set up the goal, he didn't score the goal!

Diogo, who got married recently failed to notice, however, that his wedding ring was caught in the metal barrier and severed the top two joints of the finger as he jumped back down.

OUCH!

He was then shown a yellow card for his excessive celebration.

Now that ref was on top of things!

And THAT'S why Soccer isn't popular in the States! Still, it could've been worse for that guy, if it had been his middle finger, how would he be able to flip people the bird? The horror! The horror!

Hahahahaha, brilliant! And hey now, don't blame the injury for not football not being popular here. There have been baseball players that have injured themselves while ironing their jerseys....while they were wearing them!!!!!!

And let's not forget Gus Ferrotte, the Redskins QB who hurt himself celebrating a touchdown by ramming his head into the wall.
