Problem in onsen

So then why do people advocate mutilating males? It's barbaric. At least don't do it to babies. Let them do it of their own free will when they are adults if they so choose.

I got it done when I was a baby and I don't see how its barbaric my dad is circumcised also so its like a pass down and my mom wanted it too. If I get a baby boy he's getting it too.

And your reasoning?

There are many medical procedures that were previously routine that are no longer taken so lightly (like taking tonsils out or hysterectomies).

At least make an informed decision and come up with some better reasoning. Learn everything about it -- the risks, percentage of people that have serious complications, the benefits, etc. That way if your son ever falls victim to depression and comes up to you and holds a shotgun to your head and says, "Dad, why did you consent to having my p**nis mutilated?" you'll have a better answer prepared.

I'd start by reading up on the subject here:
AMA policy on circumcision analysed
circumcision - explicit page warning

hahaha why the hell would that happen?

Ive never heard of someone whining about being circumcised.

If it would happen I would slap him and get him on zoloft.

:D

I've heard of many men who wished it hadn't been done to them. I have received many positive comments from men I know that know that I didn't have my sons circumcised.

Of course, to circumcise or to not circumcise is a purely a personal choice/preference. I've gotten into this debate before. People are set in their ways, just like in any other controversial matter. People on either side are not very likely to change their minds. That's the way it is and always will be.

> That's the way it is and always will be.

Yes, and no. Many countries have banned the practice. As soon as a few doctors get their asses sued off, the American medical community will change their tunes pretty quick.

Jesus Tap Dancin' Christ! Now the guys are crying about their circumcisions?! "Waaaah! I was mutilated! Waaah!! My hood got traded for a helmet! Waaah!!" Jeeeeze!! Get some hormones already!

or everybody's VERY open minded in there.

Lacking parity between male and female has not been achieved since we climbed down from the trees Elizibeth, but surely, we are closer now than we where a century ago? So we just take some solace we are moving our societies in the right direction at least, no?

Is what I see

well Onsens used to be mixed before the christians got to japan. Infact nudity and communial washing, going to the toilet and changing was totally normal and commonplace in Japan.
Its only the bizzare hangups we have enforced upon ourselves that changed things... imagine if we thought eating was rude? Go into a little room and scoff a sandwich because you can't do infront of other people :)

Porn mad america even made japan censor its pornography, while they enjoy one of the most open and free porn industries even witnessed in the history of man.

The way japan is going at the moment, I doubt Onsens will last much longer, as most young women I've spoken to have only been once or twice, even then with a massive towel or swimwear on. I don't mean to sound frustrated or cheated but thats the way things are going and its a little sad to see this aspect of japan change.

I wish I knew other J-girls did that! I never wore swimwear even in a mixed lotenburo (interesting experience, especially coming from a traditional English background....) I never saw anyone wearing anything in the onsen (I was told it's rude) and I didn't want to stand out anymore than I already did.
Here in Kagoshima there are a lot of kazokuburo 's (family onsens), which is a small private room with an onsen.(see photo) very cheap too - 400Y/hour
I see many young people using these here. I don't mind public onsens, but private ones are more relaxing. Hubby and I go every week ;)

Ive been told that wearing swimsuits in a public onsen in rude, both to my self and to some female friends who went to a mixed onsen. Its sad to see how things are slowly being wiped out culturally.

Wasn't I saying it wasn't a custom in Japan all along? At least, not until very recently? I guess no one believed me. *sigh* I guess it takes a guy to come along and say it for it to be recognized... :p

Couldn't have said it better myself, mdchachi. I agree completely.

Ditto! 👍

Yes, I have known men who felt this way as well. It's just really difficult to make a judgment without knowing the ins and outs of both sides.

They will last. People love hot springs in Japan too much

They'll just be segregated by gender, is all.

I'm surprised you didn't enclose ins and outs inside quotaiton marks. :D

Like I mentioned above, men experience greater sexual pleasure with the extra skin intact, so it IS in a way similar to removing/destroying a clitoris to prevent females from experiencing pleasure, only to a lesser degree.

My Goodness !!!

What a LOOONG subject we have here !!!

Being less sensitive may work out for the ladies in the LONG run; the man lasts LONGER, ladies joy stronger!!!

Frank

😊

The only disease (?) I'm aware of being associated with not being circumcised is phimosis. Does anyone know more about this? Although Japanese often speak of it like an initiation rite or ceremony (そのコミュニティーからはみ出してしまいますし), in which case reasons of health or hygiene per se are probably thought to be a little beside the point.

At least it's not particularly a HARD subject matter to discuss

Like a broken vinyl record . . . .

Again, such problems can be avoided with proper hygiene.

🙂

I guess what I'm trying to get at is why young Japanese men are being more and more enticed into having this done and why so many of them are actually accepting. There must be a more social/cultural bent to this story beyond simply health or sexual pleasure. 🙂

Japanese would try anything that the Americans do.

Maybe they think circumcision is the secret to larger _____s

Society/culture would encourage them NOT to do it.

well, my family is Jewish, so I had it done....I didnt have a choice, but I dont regret it, and I have never had any problems or "complaints" to each there own I say, worry about yourself.

Those Onsen's sound interesting... but I think id probly chicken out of going to one... but who knows, you only live once.
