Please help with grammar

Hi,

I want to translate the following sentence to Japanese:

"(He) missed a week of studies because of the cold." (I mean here, because he was cold, had a fever etc.).

Is this a correct translation:

かぜで授業の一週間を休みました。

Also, maybe 勉強 here is better than 授業?

かぜで一週間の授業を休みました。 sounds better to me, but yours isn't really wrong. Whether to use 授業 or 勉強 depends on whether he was specifically missing classes or not.

And since you're using kanji, かぜ tends to be written in kanji (風邪) especially because it's a homonym for another word (風).

Whether clearly a mistake or not I'm not sure. But I do think it's still probably awkward.

Normally you would hear something like 風邪で一週間授業を休みました。
or 風邪で授業を一週間休みました。

"一週間の授業" make sense in Japanese but this phrase "授業の一週間" don't make sense.

Does "studies of one week" means "一週間の授業" in English

英語で人々は大抵「One week of studies」を良く使います。それで、授業の一週間がいいと思ってるが、間違いですね。
In English we often say "One week of studies" or "X time of Y actions". Because of this it's easy to think you can use the same structure in Japanese. But that's not correct.

Yeah, I guess studies of one week probably doesn't make sense either
